Learn anywhere — all you need is a high-speed Internet connection.
20 hours a week — you set the schedule.
Stay motivated — work with other learners.
Structured classes and instructor support mean you will finish.
Curriculum is designed for students with no coding experience.
You will spend an average of 20-25 hours a week completing your coursework, which takes the form of coding challenges, readings, collaboration with pair programming partners, office hours and pairing sessions with instructors, real-time Q&A and chat forums, and individual mini projects.
Because many Fundamentals of Web Development students work full or part-time jobs during their learning experience, our program is flexibly scheduled. This means you can do your work at your own schedule, completing coding challenges during the evenings, over lunch, or the weekend. You will have to attend at least 3 live pair programming sessions with your cohort mates each week, one of which will involve expert pairing instruction from a course guide. You’ll also have open office hours with your instructors, which you should definitely attend. You will be able to schedule these, based on the times you are free.
Common backgrounds of Fundamentals of Web Development students: there isn’t a common background! Students learn with other students from all across the country, from all different professional backgrounds, ages, and skillsets. We’ve taught Project Managers, Salespeople, Teachers, Recruiters, Designers, CEOs and many more. The common trait our students share is a drive to learn to code, the desire to stay relevant in today’s economy, and the desire to gain both a new outlook on solving problems and technical skills to contribute to their teams.
Some of your cohort mates have enrolled for our 19-week immersive Bootcamp experience. You will interact with them just like you would with any other cohort mate, but they will be continuing after Fundamentals of Web Development to one of our physical locations for another 10 weeks of full-time, on-site learning and career preparation.
Each Fundamentals of Web Development cohort is assigned to a specific full-time instructor. This instructor (aka Phase Lead) will be in touch with students, tracking them and assisting them to make sure they successfully learn with the program. Instructors are hired because they have just the right mix of coding industry work experience, technical knowledge, and effective teaching skills. Some of our instructors even went through Dev Bootcamp’s 19-week immersive experience, including Fundamentals of Web Development, so they really understand the student experience.
Guides are Dev Bootcamp alumni at various stages of their web development careers. Some have just graduated from Dev Bootcamp’s 19-week immersive program and have an excellent perspective into the experience of being a student. Others graduated well over a year ago and have been working as web developers. Guides are hired to serve as great resources for students, answering, questions, and guiding live pair programming sessions.
Our course is specifically designed for students with no prior coding experience - and the curriculum reflects this. This class can be taken as a preparation for an immersive bootcamp, and it will serve those students well, it also is appropriate for people who have no current plans to attend an immersive bootcamp and just want a strong development foundation.
It’s online and part-time, so you don’t need to disrupt your life to take it - you fit it into your schedule when you can. It’s guided and collaborative - so you are sure to finish the course and enjoy the process of learning with others.
As with all Dev Bootcamp classes, we teach both technical skills and life skills - like how to finesse difficult conversations, give and receive feedback well. Additionally, our instructors have formidable real-world experience as developers, but are also trained educators who are passionate about teaching the next generation of developers.

No. Fundamentals of Web Development has enough flexibility to be done while having a full or part-time job. There will be at least three sessions a week that have to be scheduled ahead of time, but times are offered during and after traditional working hours to accommodate all schedules. There will also be challenges that need to be submitted every week. So, while there is a lot of flexibility, it will require you to put 20-25 hours of work in every week, so keep this in mind when planning your schedule.
The curriculum and skills offered in Fundamentals of Web Development have been part of Dev Bootcamp’s 19-week immersive program for 2 years and have taught over 2000 students how to master the basics of web development before attending the on-site, full-time part of the program. Fundamentals of Web Development was recently opened for people who still want to keep their jobs or aren’t ready to make the commitment to join our immersive program.
Some students who learn with Fundamentals of Web Development wish to continue to learn and make a career shift and join Dev Bootcamp’s core, immersive bootcamp program. These students are welcome!
We trailblazed the very first immersive coding school, and we’ve perfected the art and science of cultivating in-demand developers. Over 2,000 students have graduated from our innovative program that takes aspiring coders to fully capable and highly marketable developers in 5 months.
Success requires technical skills, yes. But it also demands empathy, ability to finesse difficult conversations, and the poise to give and receive feedback well. Our students are known to excel in these areas, so employers count on getting better employees as a result.
Being a “totally badass” developer does not translate to being a great teacher. Our instructors have formidable real-world experience as developers, but Dev Bootcamp Instructors are also trained educators who are passionate about teaching the next generation of developers.
